U.S. and Pak. Sign NATO Supply Agreement.

Pakistan and the United States have signed an agreement on transporting supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan via Pakistan. As per the agreement the United States will provide 1.1 billion dollar aid to Pakistan for fighting terrorists within its borders. The agreement will be valid till 31 December 2015.

Some of important points of the agreement are as follows:
  • The MOU for transportation of arms and ammunition for NATO/ISAF in Afghanistan via Pakistan.
  • Allows of arms shipments and equipments for training of Afghan security forces.
  • Only Two routes from Khyber, Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces will be used by NATO tankers containers.
  • The agreement said no tax or duty will be levied on the containers; commercial carriers will have to pay fees.
  • Pakistan will also ensure the security and fast transfer of cargo & keeping while engaging the US authority.
  • The Containers traveling to Afghanistan will be bound to return via Pakistan.
  • The Defence Ministry which will act as a central coordination authority and review daily operations and other matters related to the supply routes.
  • Two monitoring offices for NATO supplies will be established at the Pakistani Defence Ministry and the US Embassy.
