- DR Mehta, founder and chief benefactor of an organization that popularized the Jaipur Foot, has been selected for the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award for this year.
- He is famous for popularising Jaipur Foot, has been selected for the 20th Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award.
- The award is being given to him for his outstanding contribution towards promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill.
- He was former chairman of SEBI.
- In 1975, Mehta established the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), a charitable organization based in Jaipur that provides artificial legs to the poor.
