President rule imposed in Andra Pradesh


  • As, The President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee gave his assent for Telangana, he also signed for President's rule in Andra Pradesh. 
  • As we are aware that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned on 19 February 2014 over Telangana issue thenafter Governor E S L Narasimhan recommended President Rule in the Andhra Pradesh State.
  • It is after 41 years, President's rule has been imposed in the state. The first time was in 1973, when "Jai Andhra" movement picked up. 
Important to note :
  • According to the Article 356 of the constitution, if the President, on receipt of report from the Governor of the State or otherwise, is satisfied that a situation has arisen in which the government of the State cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution, the President may declare the president rule in the state.
  • So far, the Centre has imposed President's rule 122 times in different states of India
