Pune is closer to becoming Metro - Polis

The Union Ministry of Urban Development gave an “in-principle” approval to thePhase – I of the Pune Metro Rail Project. In-principle approval of the Centre will enable the state government to take necessary action required for faster implementation of the project.

Pune Metro Rail Project
  • Objective:  To provide a world class state of the art metro rail system on pattern of Delhi Metro.
  • Will cover a length of 31.51 km along two corridors viz. Corridor-1 cover16.59 km from PCMC to Swargate and Corridor-2 cover 14.92 km from Vanaz to Ramwadi and improve the public transport system in the city of Pune.
  • The capital expenditure is expected to be around Rs 10,183 crore and the targeted year of completion is 2021.
Maharashtra Government has proposed to implement the project through a Special Purpose Vehicle jointly owned by the Centre and the state government.
