VICE PRESIDENT RELEASES BOOK ‘WATER, PEACE AND WAR-CONFRONTING THE GLOBAL WATER CRISIS’

• The Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled “Water, Peace and War – Confronting the Global Water Crisis” authored by Shri Brahma Chellaney at a function on 24 February 2014. 
• Addressing on the occasion, he said that this world of water, earth and air is a paradise and nobody earlier thought that water will be in scarcity. That is why some measures of management of water resources is required. 
• He opined that issue of de-salination of water should be looked into and it will become a major exercise. 
• He congratulated the author for bringing out such a useful book and wished him good success in this endeavour.

• The book focuses on a wide range of research from scientific and policy fields to examine the global linkages between water and peace.
• The book founds a way on how we can secure humankind’s water future and promised to become the recognized authority on the most precious natural resources of this century.
• The author sketched a bleak picture of water scarcity in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, regions also struggling with unstable governments and rapidly growing populations.  Water stressed conditions are also appearing in developed countries, such as Australia, Spain, and South Korea. Even the deep-water aquifers that support modern agriculture in North America are dwindling.
