As IOC revoked ban on IOA, Indian Flag unfurled at Sochi Winter Olympics


  • 14 month long suspension of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) was revoked by International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently. 
  • After that Indian flag was unfurled on 16 February 2014 at the Winter Olympics Village at Sochi, Russia at a special ceremony at International Plaza of the Mountain Village.
  • Event was attended by three Indian athletes Luger Shiva Keshavan, alpine skier Himanshu Thakur and cross country skier Nadeem Iqbal. 
  • Coaches, Officials of IOA and President of Indian Olympic Association, N Ramachandran was also present at this moment.

Important to note : 
  • Tricolour of India was not unflured at the opening ceremony of Winter Olympics at Sochi Games village as India was facing the suspension from the games. 
  • Indian players had taken part under the flag of IOC.
  • Sochi Olympic games started on 7 February 2014 
  • The suspension on Indian Olympic Association was revoked on 11 February 2014.
