Publisher Penguin India agreed to withdraw American Indologist Wendy Doniger’s book “The Hindus: An Alternative History” from the Indian market.
The decision made between the publisher and Delhi based complainant organization called “Shiksha Bachao Andolan”, who moved to court alleging distortion aimed at denigrating Hindu traditions.
The main contention of all petitioners is that the book insults and offends Hindus and Indians. The issues against the book range from factual errors, dates, maps, to use of psychoanalytical tools while viewing Vedic, Hindu and Indian gods.
