National Food Security Act came into force in Madhya Pradesh

• National Food Security Act came into force in Madhya Pradesh from 1st March 2014.. 
• 75 % population of people will be covered under the Act.
• This implementation of the National Food Security Act in the state is a part of the national Bill that became an Act after receiving the nod by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on 10 September 2013.

Objective of the National Food Security Act 2013

1. The Act was launched with an objective to provide food and nutritional security to people of the country. 
2. To make this food available to the people of the country, the government of India came with a scheme under which 67 % population of India (of which 75 % is rural and 50 % is urban population) will have an access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable prices. 
3. This scheme was planned to allow people to lead a life with dignity.
4. The Act makes a state responsible to identify the beneficiaries and implement the programme under it. 
5. As per the Act, guarantees 5 kilograms of rice, wheat and coarse cereals per month per person at the highly subsidized rates of 1-3 rupees a kg. 
6. Rice will be made available at 3 rupees a kg, wheat at 2 rupees a kg and coarse cereals at 1 rupee a kg.
