World Kidney Day observed on 13th March all over the world

  • World Kidney Day was observed on 13 March 2014 with the theme, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and aging. 
  • World Kidney Day is observed annually on the second Thursday in March.
  • Australia also observed the World Kidney Day with the theme Kidneys Age, Just Like You-take care of them to create awareness on the prevention of kidney diseases.

Know about World Kidney Day:
  • The first World Kidney Day started in 2006. It is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF).
  • World Kidney Day 2013 was celebrated in 157 countries around the world with the theme of Kidneys for Life - Stop Kidney Attack.

  • World Kidney Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
  • One in every 10 adults suffers from chronic kidney disease (CKD) and nearly five lakh patients are in need of life-long dialysis or transplant at any given point of time in India.
