Mizoram wins its maiden Santosh Trophy

  • Mizoram gave a fairy-tale finishing to its most successful campaign in the senior National football championship by towering over former champion Railways 3-0 in the final and annexed the maiden Santosh Trophy in style.
  • 68th senior National football championship of Santosh Trophy was clinched by Mizoram
  • Final match was played between Mizoram and Railways on 9th March 2014 at Kanchenjungha Stadium in Siliguri, West Bengal. 
  • From Mizoram side First and second goal was made by Zeco Zoram Sanga (captain of Mizoram),  and Third goal was scored by Lalrin Puia.

Note :  
  • Railways for the last time bagged Santosh Trophy in 1966 and since then (48 years) it has never won a single trophy. 
  • Mizoram bagged 5 lakh rupees, while Railways as the runners-up got 3 lakh rupees.
