India and Japan joint Coast Guard exercise: ‘Sahayog – Kaijin 2014’

  • The 13th edition of joint exercise by the Indian Coast Guard and its Japanese counterpart held approximately at 20 nautical miles off Kochi. 
  • The bilateral exercise titled ‘Sahayog-Kaijin 2014’ was successfully conducted by both the countries. 

Highlights: 
  • Japan Coast Guard ship Mizuho along with its integral helicopter;Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat; interceptor vessel C-404, which in the simulated drill acted as a pirate-controlled vessel; a Chetak helicopter and a Dornier maritime recce aircraft participated in the exercise.
  • The joint exercise was based on many factors viz. cross-deck landings, anti-piracy drills, search and rescue demonstration, a fire fighting demonstration, etc.
  • Focus:Anti-piracy procedures, pollution control measures and other areas of common professional interest.
