World Braille Day is celebrated across the world on January 4.   
I.                    The day observes the birth anniversary of Braille script's inventor 'Louis Braille'. 
II.                    The script helps the visually impaired people to read and write.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Maninder Singh Dhir becomes the new speaker of Delhi Assembly.
3.
Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company (BAGIC) launches the first all India Woman’s insurance branch at Pune. The company plans to open more such branches across the country.
4.
Bharti Retail appoints Raj Jain, former head of Walmart India, as CEO (chief executive officer);Pankaj Madan becomes the CFO (chief financial officer).

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) designates Manoj Vaish as Managing Director and ChiefExecutive Officer for 3 years.  
I.                    He, a former BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) head, succeeds scam-tainted Shreekant Javalgekar as such.

India to set up a 'Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership'.    
-It will enhance global cooperation in the areas of advanced nuclear energy systems, nuclear security, radiological safety and radiation technology applications in areas such as health, food and industry. 
-The Centre will be owned and managed by the Government.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), country's largest software services firm, is soon to set up theworld's largest corporate learning and development centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.  
I.                    When fully functional, it will be able to train about 50,000 professionals every year.

Latvia becomes 18th nation to join Eurozone

India's rocket GSLV-D5, with indigenous cryogenic technology, successfully puts heavy communication satellite GSAT-14 into the orbit.  
I.                    India, with this successful mission, joins the elite club of the U.S., Russia, France, Japan and China who can put satellites weighing over two tonnes in orbit.
II.                    India was denied the cryogenic technology for over 20 years by Russia under pressure from the US.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announces new criteria for giving Arjuna Awards to sportspersons from 2014 onwards.  
I.                    90 percent weightage is to be given to winners of medals in International championships like Olympic Games (summer, winter and Paralympics), Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

India beat Pakistan by 40 runs to win the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup at Sharjah.

Infosys elevates BG Srinivas and UB Pravin Rao as twin Presidents. B. G. Srinivas will oversee the global markets whereas U. B. Pravin Rao is to focus on global delivery and service innovation.

India's former shooting coach 'Tibor Gonczol' died aged 80. His illustrious list of disciples include Samresh Jung, Jaspal Rana, Anjali Bhagwat and Suma Shirur among many.

Justice B.S. Chauhan appointed as the Chairman of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.    
I.                    He will succeed Justice N.P. Singh as such who had resigned on health grounds way back in April 2012.

Ruling party Awami League sweeps 10th general elections in Bangladesh with three-fourth majority.    
I.                    The result of this farcical election were known even before single vote was cast as more than half the seats (153) were won unopposed by ruling coalition due to poll boycott by major opposition parties.
II.                    Awami league secured 231 seats (127 uncontested) overall in 300-constituency parliament.
III.                    8 of the 147 contested constituencies will undergo repolling as balloting was marred by electoral violence and fraud.
IV.                    Main opposition BNP alongwith other opposition parties had boycotted the polls over prime minister Sheikh Hasina's refusal to introduce a non-party interim government to oversee the elections.

R Chandrashekhar becomes President of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies).  
I.                    He, a former telecom secretary, succeeds Som Mittal as such.
II.                    Nasscom, a non-profit organisation, is a trade association of Indian Information Technologyand Business Process Outsourcing industry.

Eusebio da Silva, considered one of the best footballers in the history, passes away at 71. The Mozambican-born Portuguese forward scored more than 700 competitive goals in his career and won the Ballon d'Or award in 1965.

India's Mahesh Mangaonkar clinches Open du Gard squash title by beating top seed Greg Lobban of Scotland 9-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-5 in the final of this PSA Challenger 5 event.  
I.                    He, by virtue of this victory at Nimes (France), now has 3 PSA tour title.

Aditya Joshi becomes India’s first male junior badminton player to become 'World No 1'.

India successfully test-fires nuclear capable Surface-to-Surface missile Prithvi II. The missile, with a strike range of 350 km, is capable of carrying warheads upto 1,000 kg.

US under the grip of unprecedented cold weather as 'polar air' brings temperature to the arctic level.  
I.                    The historic winter chill has forced the mid-west and northeastern parts of the country into virtual hibernation as Chicago temperature plummets to -26 degree celsius.

The US Senate approves Janet Yellen as the the first woman ever to head the US central bank'Federal Reserve'.

Government launches the nation’s first comprehensive adolescent health programme 'Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram' (RKSK).   
I.                    The objective of the programme is to promote adolescent health in the country. 
II.                    It will cover 243 million adolescents constituting 21 percent of the total population in the country.

Chhattisgarh Government launches anti-graft Toll Free No '1100' to check corruption.  
I.                    The citizens can complain on this helpline against the state government officials for asking for favours or dereliction of duty.

Government is set to establish 'Equal Opportunity Commission' to address cases ofdiscrimination in employment faced by the minorities. The commission, recommended by theSachar Committee, will also grant 'minoritystatus to Jain community.

'Little Eye Labs' becomes Facebook first acquisition in India. This Bangalore-based start-up develops tool for Android app developers to measure, analyse and optimise their apps.

Delhi government launches anti-corruption helpline '011-27357169' to help people trap corrupt government employees through sting operations.   
I.                    The number, soon to be shortened to four-digit, will be open from 8am to 10pm.

Munish Sharda becomes the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of  life insurance company 'Future Generali'.  
I.                    The private Indian insurer is a joint venture between future group, Generali, a global insurance group and IITL -a non banking financial company.

Morten Karlsen Sorby appointed as CEO of Uninor India with immediate effect.

Abdiweli Mohamed Ali elected the new President of 'Puntland'.

India (23rd) slips behind nuclear neighbours China (20th) and Pakistan (22nd) in the 'Nuclear Materials Security Index 2014'.   
I.                    The survey, conducted by US-based think tank Nuclear Threat Initiative, ranks countries onhow secure their nuclear materials are globally.
II.                    25 countries with weapons-usable nuclear materials featured in the Index.

The union cabinet sanctions the National Youth Policy (NYP) 2014 focusing on educationskill developmentemploymententrepreneurship and health.  
I.                    It is to replace the present NYP-2003.
II.                    The policy will cover the youth in the age-group of 15-29 years across the country.
III.                    The given category constitutes 27.5 per cent of the nation's population as per 2011 census.

Tamil poetess Meena Kandasamy conferred on the 3rd Mayilamma award for her contribution to social causes and women empowerment.  
I.                    Human rights activist Irom Shamila Chanu and Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi have been the previous recipient of this honour.
II.                    The prize is named after Mayilamma who had led a campaign against the Coca-Cola company in Kerala’s northern district of Palakkad for water preservation.

Government comes up with comprehensive regulatory guidelines for Television Rating Agencies in order to make them transparent, credible and accountable.
