Largest tribal religious congregation of world
  • The largest tribal religious congregation of the world "Sammakkaa Saarakka Fair" began in Andhra Pradesh at Medaram in Warangal district of the Telangana region on 12 February 2014.  
  • Sammakkaa Saarakka Fair is also known as Jatara. 
  • Sammakkaa Saarakka is a 4-day biennial fair and it is participated by more than a crore of devotees from far-flung areas like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharastra, Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. 
  • The authorities of the festival have made elaborate arrangements that include make-shift accommodations, power supply and drinking water. 
  • Following the festive occasion the state owned Road Transport Corporation has arranged about four buses to Medaram.
About Sammakkaa Saarakka festival
  • Sammakkaa Saarakka festival is celebrated to pay tribute to the tribal warrior Sammakka and her daughter Saaralamma Saaralamma who sacrificed their lives while fighting against the army of Kakatiya dynasty to protect their people. 
  • Formally, the fair began with the elders of the local community by bringing the deity of Saaralamma from a forest temple to the special platform in Jatara at Medaram village near Jampanna Stream, a tributary to River Godavari. 
  • Devotees, who believe the sacrifice of their gods saved them, take a dip in the red waters of the stream which was named after Sammaakka’s son Jampanna.
