Indian spirituality makes its presence felt even at CERN

The European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) director general Rolf-Dieter Heuer has said that he was looking forward to more contribution from Indian engineers in the Higgs Boson project.

“India should be proud of its partnership in the Higgs Boson project. CERN also has a spiritual presence of India  in the form of a statue of Lord Shiva in his Natraj form celebrating the cosmic dance of God close to the office of the scientists,’ he told HT.

The statue was given by the Indian government to celebrate the research centre’s long association with India. “We need the brains and hands of the skilled engineers and scientists from India. From India I would like to see participation from scientists, engineers and Indian enterprises. But this will be possible only after India becomes an associate member of CERN. I understand that the documents for this are in the PM’s Office. I have received positive signals for this,” he added.

Britain’s Peter Higgs and Belgian Francois Englert won this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on the ‘God particle’. The two scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize for predicting the existence of the Higgs Boson particle that explains how elementary matter attains mass required to form stars and planets.
